Sea slugs of all sorts are one of the best macro creatures you can find. When diving, most many look for all the big pelagic fish as well as turtles and the list goes on. However, something you would never guess can give you a joy to find? That would be a sea slug. Sea slugs, (which are not nudibranchs) vary with sizes and are all unique and this one is no different. Head shield slugs are one of smallest type of slugs found under the sea. Ranging in colours, the head shield slug can be also one of the most beautiful.
These slugs are not only pretty, but are also carnivorous in the sense that they feed on opisthobranchs, polychaete and nemertean worms or flat worms. During mating, they trail and follow other members of the same species. To find these amazing slugs, you need eagle eye, as they only get to 1 inch (2.5 cm).
When in danger these slugs secrete a pheromone into the water and can also burry themselves under sand. The Headshield slug spends most of their time just beneath the sand. When diving, you need to go slowly over the sand and grass areas and hopefully it will yield great fruits and you will find one of these amazing slugs.
