Most see this and automatically assume it is a sea snake. However, this is far from the truth, even if they are snake eels. They are known to look like snakes, but is actually an eel. The Golden Spotted eel has a greenish color about its body and bright yellow spots all about themselves. Surrounding these bright yellow spots, there is also a black ring.
To find these amazing eels, you would have more luck in the grass beds, sand beds and sometimes on the reef itself. When hunting, the golden spotted eel poke their heads in crevices, in search of their food source of crabs. They also tail first burry themselves in sandy bottoms and leave their head protruding above the sand.
Not much is known about their mating habits, however it is said they intertwine their bodies and release male and female gametes mid water, where they fertilizes and drift with the currents. Once an egg is fertilized, they are in a pelagic phase, drifting with currents feeding on small platonic animals, until they grow a bit and then goes to the bottom.
